This month’s small business feature is a charming get away right here in our backyards! Check it out!
Tell us about your business… What do you do?
Our small, quiet and rusticly luxurious horse farm offers a place for horseback riders to come and stay one or several nights on site with their own personal horses. Located within the Sumter National Forest, we have direct access to the Rocky Gap Trails System in South Carolina that connects to the Willis Knob Trail System in Georgia. These trails connect by crossing the beautiful Wild and Scenic Chattooga River. At Chattooga Trails Bed and Barn, we have pasture, paddocks and barn where ones horse can enjoy a comfortable and safe stay as well as rooms or full hook up RV sites for our two legged visitors. Although we are ideally set up for riders visiting the local horse trails, we encourage all visitors to the area to stay with us. In this area of Oconee County, the possibilities for outdoor adventure are endless. Whether someone is coming to raft, kayak, fly fish, mountain bike, hike, zip line, chase waterfalls, boat or fish our fresh water Lake Jocassee, Lake Keowee or Lake Tagalog, our rooms have private entrances and are set up to accommodate individuals or small groups who want a more private and personal feel to their stay. So what are you waiting for? It time to “Get out and Make Memories!”.
What makes your business unique/special?
We are in the middle of nowhere but in the middle of everything at the same time. Where else can you go with your horse and stay in the luxury of all the comforts of home, ride out straight from the property down to the Wild and Scenic Chattooga River and never see pavement or cars? In this little section of the farthest reaches of the SC upstate in Mountain Rest, we have a niche. A Niche that provides endless outdoor adventures, old growth forests, a clean, federally, protected cold water river and most importantly, peace and quiet! A place where you can do as much or as little as you want. It is so relaxing to just sit outside and hear the wind, the beating of hummingbird wings and let the whippoorwills lull you to sleep.
What item/service in your shop do you just LOVE and think everyone needs?
The peace and quiet, being back in the arms of nature and God. Up here, we are just one step away from Heaven!
In what way have you gone above and beyond in the past for a customer?
I am available to send information to visitors on the area. I love offering suggestions and helping plan adventures for our visitors. So many people are unaware of the abundance of beautiful things to see and do that Oconee County of SC has to offer. When I can help guide someone towards an adventure that will be a forever memory for them, that is priceless.
Tell us about you… Why did you choose to do what you do?
It is rewarding to see and hear about others enjoying life and making memories.
What are you passionate about outside of your business?
The beauty of nature and helping others. My professional background is as an Occupational Therapist for almost 25 years. I currently work at Excel Rehab and Sports in Seneca and love seeing others recover and get back to enjoying life.
What is the coolest thing you’ve ever had a client do for you?
Share with us and others how much fun and enjoyment they got out of their vacation because of the accommodations or activity suggestions. It’s just feels more like Ive given them a gift than providing a business service.
What tool/equipment/or other vendor could you not imagine doing business without?
All the local business combined are what make this region what it it. Oconee County offers so much and those retailers and travel and tourism groups that promote it all play a necessary and intricle part.
What other business do you just LOVE? Why?
We love Chattooga River Fly Shop! Karl and Katie are amazing and have a wonderful local and interdependently run fly shop here in Mountain Rest. They are super knowledgeable and willing to share where to fish on the Chattooga or Chauga Rivers and are always willing to advise on what the trout are currently hitting. Their retail store is well stocked and they even provide guided fly fishing trips that do not disappoint. Chattooga River Fly Shop was the first local business we reached out to partner with once we embarked upon this business journey and I think they believed in us even before we did! We love having visiting fly fishermen and women come stay with us! http://www.chattoogariverflyshop.com/
Introduce us to your staff!
Currently our staff consists of my husband Jay Crumpler and myself. We both enjoy being outdoors doing almost anything but mostly hiking and boating. We are embarking upon horse ownership and cannot wait to get out and make memories on the horse trails!
